Terms and Conditions
1. Overview
Welcome to the inaugural season of the Canadian Kilithattu League (CKL)—a first-of-its-kind organized league for this traditional sport. By registering and participating in CKL, you agree to comply with the following Terms and Conditions, which govern participation, media rights, waivers, and conduct during the season.
2. Season Information
Team Formation:
Teams will be formed through a captain-led draft process to ensure balance and competitiveness. The draft order will be randomly selected and conducted fairly. Captains may be allowed to protect one or two players prior to the draft if a protection rule is adopted. Protected players would not be eligible for selection by other teams.
Fees:
Participation fees will not exceed $60 per player. This covers:
- Full season of scheduled matches (number to be finalized)
- Official Adidas jerseys (personalized names may be available)
- Entry into a playoff tournament seeded based on regular season results
Statistics:
In the 2025 season, CKL will track the following player statistics:
- Games Played
- Hits
- Breaks
- Points Scored
These stats will contribute to performance evaluations and individual awards (to be announced).
4. Media and NIL Release
By participating in CKL, you agree to the following:
Grant of Rights
- CKL and its affiliates are permitted to record, photograph, and film your name, image, likeness, voice, and performance during the 2025 season.
- CKL is granted a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use this media for purposes including but not limited to:
- Social media
- Websites, streaming, and TV
- Press coverage
- Advertisements, merchandise, and documentaries
Revenue and Ownership
- CKL may generate revenue through media containing your NIL.
- Participants will not receive compensation from such use.
- All media produced during the season will be owned solely by CKL.
Waiver and Release
You release CKL and all associated parties from:
- Any claims related to defamation, privacy invasion, or copyright regarding the media.
Acknowledgement
You affirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to this Media and NIL Agreement.
5. Assumption of Risk and Liability Waiver
Voluntary Participation
Participation in CKL activities is voluntary. You confirm that you are physically and mentally fit to participate.
Assumption of Risk
You acknowledge that participating in Kilithattu involves risks such as:
- Physical injuries (sprains, fractures, concussions)
- Illness or exposure to communicable diseases
- Accidents due to physical exertion or contact
You accept full responsibility for these risks.
Waiver and Release
By signing up, you:
- Waive all claims against CKL and its affiliates for any injury, loss, or illness sustained.
- Authorize emergency medical treatment if necessary and accept full responsibility for any medical costs incurred.
Code of Conduct
Participants must abide by all CKL rules and instructions. Unsafe behavior or misconduct may result in removal from the league without refund.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify CKL against any claims or liabilities resulting from your participation.
6. Rules of Play
The CKL follows the official ruleset of Kilithattu as outlined:
- Teams: 8 players per team (6 on the field at once).
- Objective: Traverse each box on the field and score points by reaching the end zone without being tagged.
- Gameplay: Includes Kai and Palam transitions, defender lines, Kili responsibilities, and rules for hitting, locking, pacing, and guiding.
- Points: Points are scored by successfully reaching the end zone with both feet and body crossing the Kili base line.
- Equipment: Players must wear matching Adidas jerseys and shorts. Minor religious jewelry must be taped securely. Additional clothing must match jersey colors.

7. Code of Conduct
All participants are expected to:
- Respect referees, opponents, teammates, and officials.
- Display sportsmanship at all times.
- Adhere to CKL’s safety guidelines and rules.
- Accept league decisions as final.
Failure to comply may result in warnings, suspensions, or dismissal from the league.
8. Amendments
CKL reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions as necessary. Any changes will be communicated promptly to all participants.
9. Acknowledgement
By registering for and participating in the 2025 CKL Season, you:
- Acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms and Conditions.
- Agree to abide by all CKL policies, rules, and expectations.
- Accept the risks and responsibilities outlined.
